Screen blank on boot, suspected LCD or hard drive failure. Hard drive data can still be read when connected externally, but fails to boot on working laptop. Visitor uses laptop only for a software that runs on Windows 7 and installed through CD.

Removed HDD. Advice given: transfer out important data from HDD as it is very old (2010) and may wear out soon. Remove CD-ROM and use externally on other working laptop. Install Windows 7 virtual machine on working laptop to run software instead of dual boot to eliminate need to enter BIOS to change boot order.
