Battery needs replacing and lots of applications running, due to multiple shutdowns and restarts of all applications.

Battery last 10 minutes and runs very slow

What did you do to repair it?
Shutdown all applications, rebooted. Told the owner about battery replacement, showed them the iFixit site with instructions - subsequently owner confirmed they had replaced battery following on line information and it was very easy!
