Tested continuity between bulb holders (OK) and along return wire (OK) and re-terminated plug. Advise retirement of item due to potential safety issues (thin unsheathed mains wire, with no protective earth or strain relief - danger of electric shock). Also, old-style incandescent bulbs are expensive, hard to find and prone to overheating (potential fire hazard).
