Fabric split around eyelet. Advice requested.

Seat of walker is worn. Oval metal eyelet is partially detached. Fabric. Needs reinforcing around eyelet. Please suggest materials to use and technique to apply.

What did you do, what advice did you give?
Advised to strengthen fabric with canvas, glued on either spray glue and stitched in place. Buttonhole stitch around eyelet.
