What did you do to repair it?
dismantled bottom, inserted a nut into the internal mechanism and glued it into position flush with hole. Screwed a rod through the plate and into the nut. Another nut fitted to the outside of the rod. Tightened the two nuts then screwed and glued the handle back into position. Tested and it works.
